Get A Student Credit Card To Make College Life Easier

Everybody knows that collage life requires finance. Any student who wants to pay his way through college seeks a source of finance to pay for education, studying material and everyday expenses. The problem begins when the students family cant support monetarily during emergencies or daily expenses due to being far away.

Student Credit Cards become a must and so, when shopping for a credit card one cant be careful enough. There are many things one needs to know before applying for a student credit card; following are some tips that will help you get started with the application process and will also teach you some basics on credit card proper use:

Fees and Rates

Student Credit Cards have somewhat high fees and interest rate, this is due to the fact that students usually lack a credit history and so, the credit card issuer is making a blind guess so to speak.

If you want to get a lower interest rate, though not required, you can always apply with a co-signer. A co-signer will become responsible for the card debt along with the credit card holder and if the holder fails to pay, he will have to cancel the debt. If a co-signer is present, his credit score will be considered in order to calculate the interest rate, and if the co-signer has good credit then, the card will carry a lower interest rate.

Starting six months 0% APR

In order to make things easier for students, most student credit cards offer a 0% APR for at least six months. Students tend to use this special promotional rate to pay for all he moving and settling expenses. Starting college is usually very expensive: moving expenses, studying material, college costs, more than usual phone calls, etc. And it is good to have cheap finance during this initial period, once the promotional period ends, the student will be already settled and wont have so many expenses.

Additional Benefit

Another benefit that comes along with being a credit card holder is that requirements for obtaining other services like a phone line, ISP, etc. or even renting an apartment will be eased due to the fact that owning a credit card is prove of credit worthiness.

Moreover, some landlords actually require tenants to own a Credit Card in order to lease them rooms or apartments. In any case, being a credit card holder is always a plus not only for the use you can make out of it, but also because of what having one implies.

Getting the right Student Credit Card

At this point, you surely want to know where you can get a student credit card. There is no single answer to that question. However, the best way to finding the right student credit card for you is to perform an online search and request information from different credit card issuers, comparing them and once youve found which one is best for you, you can apply directly online. This way, youll get the best deal at the lowest cost.

Mall Of America

When out shopping with my sisters, we decided to visit the famous Mall of America. My eldest sister announced that she was keen to look for a store specializing in children's clothing. I decided with my younger sister to do some shopping for clothes for ourselves, and she also wanted to buy something for her husband's 40th birthday. Upon arrival, we picked up a comprehensive directory that listed clothing stores for loads of different items of clothing.

We started off by visiting a store for kid's clothes for my older sister. She found some great items for her kids, at really low prices. We then opted for a coffee break at a little place just by the store, which also sold delicious cakes and pastries, in which we took great delight! Next stop was a high-fashion clothes store I was excited to visit. According to the map in the directory, it was on the second floor, and not too far from where we were, so I just couldn't resist. After admiring the entire stock, I came across this gorgeous silk shirt - purple and green, ideal for the summer. I went to the cash desk to buy it and was amazed at how low the price was! For such an original, stylish garment, I really couldn't believe it. We were all very happy with the range of shops, the prices, and how easy it was to find your way around. Next, we headed towards a golf shop for Thomas's birthday - fitting, given our husbands were playing golf together as we shopped! We spotted a great golf shirt at a really good price - ideal for Thomas, and an ideal birthday present he'd really appreciate.

My youngest sister Helen was still eager to visit a specialist swimwear store. She was only four weeks from a round the world cruise, and had been furiously dieting to look good in her swimsuit - it had to be just perfect. On the third floor there was a swimwear shop, but it was more targeted towards kids. The shop manager was particularly helpful, and directed us towards a specialist swimwear shop where we would be more likely to find what we were looking for.

Helen was very pleased with the vast range of swimsuits in their shop, and they had loads for her to choose from. Although this store was slightly more expensive, it was really high quality, and definitely worth the money.

We reverted back to the directory to help find somewhere good to eat our lunch. We decided on a great little restaurant right next door to an accessory shop that caught our eye. We each found accessories to match our earlier purchases, and were delighted overall.

Our visit to the mall was great fun, and a really exhausting day out. We each found stores to meet our budget and taste, and were delighted with what we bought, although we didn't manage to visit even a fraction of the stores in the mall. We all agreed that the best tactic is to go with a list of what you're looking for and consult a directory to find the best places to go.

Holiday Blues or Joy

Good news! No matter what your life situation is, or how the past holiday seasons were, you can have a wonderful Christmas.

As a Marriage, Family and Child Therapist, I have helped many people transform their holiday blues to joy. The clients had many painful childhood memories of Christmas. It reminded them of adults fighting about the presents to give, the tree decorations, the meals to serve, and whom to invite for the holidays. The men and women recalled being given no gifts, or feeling disappointed of the presents they did receive. For some clients the holidays intensified their loneliness and loss of what they once did have, because they were divorced or some family members or friends were no longer close or were deceased.

There were also numerous cases of people suffering from post-holiday depression. Their unrealistic expectations set them up for devastating disappointments. They had hoped that they would finally feel loved, accepted and appreciated by their family members when they went home for the holidays. Instead, they experienced the familiar, painful feelings of separation and criticisms.

To assist the clients, I developed a process I call HART, which stands for Holistic And Rapid Transformation. This is one of the HART exercises I used to help these men and women welcome the holiday season and continue to feel good after all the celebrations.

Imagine that your loved ones are in front of you, whether or not they are presently alive, and say the following words:

"I forgive you for all the things you did and said that did not feel good to me. I now understand that you were in a lot of pain and you did the best that you could at the time. If you were capable of doing things differently, you would have. I accept that you are basically a loving, kind being, you never meant to hurt me, and you didn't always know how to express your caring. I realize that no matter what you said or did, I am okay."

"I forgive myself for all the times I did not act in a loving way because of my pain. I am learning from my mistakes and letting go of the past. I am beginning to believe that I deserve to feel good and to be loved. I am beginning to accept that I am lovable, good enough, worthy, important, attractive, and intelligent. I now realize that I have the power to create my happiness by giving from my heart unconditionally to others and by allowing others to give to me. I understand that my positive thoughts, words and actions are magnetic and draw to me the same."

"I choose to make this holiday and post-holiday season the first of many wonderful, loving experiences and a model for my daily year round way of living from my heart. I now associate the true spirit of Christmas with love and peace, and I am grateful for the holidays that remind me of the most important things in life. My focus each day is not on what I have accomplished but how much I have expressed caring to others and myself. I am grateful for all the opportunities I have to give to others, and for all that I receive. Let there be peace on earth and let it begin with me!"

Once you are in the spirit of Christmas, it helps to understand specifically what valuable gifts you can offer others. Even though each one of us is unique, our problems and needs are basically the same. We all want and need to feel okay, worthy, good enough, important, attractive, intelligent, and lovable no matter what our age, social status, color or religion. So give someone a precious present for the holidays (or any time) by telling them or showing them by your deeds or gift how wonderful they are and how much you appreciate them.

If your funds are low, you can still give the most valuable commodity, yourself. For example, make gift certificates offering to: give a back or foot rub, drive them someplace, do their food shopping, clean their windows, repair something, read them a book of their choice, help them problem solve, walk their dog, play a game they like, wash the dishes, cook dinner, paint a room, teach them something they want to learn, or listen to them for an hour. You can also give them something of yours that you think they will appreciate.

If you do not have a family to share with, give yourself a gift and send yourself a loving card expressing how much you appreciate you. You can also give gifts and/or volunteer your time to a service organization such as Big Sister/Big Brother, Salvation Army, or a Nursing Home, Hospital, or School. Open your heart to these people and feel the joy of giving to others. In the act of giving, you will receive a great deal. Focus on the spirit of the holidays, focus on love and you will feel great joy and inner peace which is your greatest contribution to world peace!

Ovarian Cancer Treatment

Ovarian cancer, a condition characterized by an overgrowth of malignant cells in one or both of the ovaries, is one of the deadliest and under-recognized cancers affecting women. Every year, there are more than 25,000 women that suffer from this deadly disease. Half of them are most likely to die within a period of five years.

Early Detection: Improves Ovarian Cancer Treatment

The sad thing about ovarian cancer is that during the early stage, there are usually no signs and symptoms that tell you about this disorder. Symptoms start to show up when the cancer is already widespread, making ovarian cancer treatment too difficult.

However, there are women who are lucky enough to detect the symptoms early on; hence, diagnosis is hastened up and ovarian cancer treatment is given immediately. Tests such as pelvic and rectal screening, ultrasound, x-ray and laparoscopy may help a doctor detect tumors in the ovaries.

At present, almost 75 percent of women diagnosed with ovarian cancer are not treated immediately due to late detection of the cancer. Experts say that when detection of the cancer is made early and when ovarian cancer treatment is given immediately, women diagnosed with the disease have 90% survival rate since the cancer can be easily treated in its early stage.

Diagnosis and Ovarian Cancer Treatment

When symptoms finally show up and the doctor suspects that a patient may have ovarian cancer, laparoscopy is conducted to confirm diagnosis. It is a direct visual examination of the abdominal cavity, the ovaries, the exterior of the fallopian tubes and the uterus using an instrument that is inserted just underneath the navel.

Upon confirmation of ovarian cancer, the doctor explores the extent of the cancer and submits the patient for surgery. The surgeon removes the growth or much of the malignant tissue. In most cases, the whole ovary or both of the ovaries and the fallopian tubes are removed as they the malignant cancer cells have already affected these areas. This kind of surgery is called salpingooophorectomy. If the malignant cells affect the uterus, hysterectomy is conducted (surgical removal of the uterus).

Surgery is usually ensued by radiotherapy, which is the use of high energy radiation to destroy malignant cancer cells in the body and shrink remaining tumors, which may later on become malignant. This procedure may be done using an external machine or a radioactive material put inside the body near the malignant cells.

The patient also undergoes chemotherapy, whereby the patient is given anti-cancer drugs to help hasten up ovarian cancer treatment. Drugs may be administered orally (through the mouth), intravenously (through the veins) or through the muscles (by means of injection of a needle.

Most anticancer drugs given to the patient have chemical compounds that are toxic to the malignant cells; thus, growth of the cancer cells is reduced or stopped. These anticancer drugs are called cytotoxic drugs. Other anticancer drugs used are synthetic forms of sex hormones such as androgen drugs and progesterone drugs.

In most instances, different kinds of anticancer drugs are prescribed in combination in order to speed up ovarian cancer treatment. However, not all ovarian cancer patients are given with the same anticancer drugs. The drugs given to a patient depends on the extent or stage of development of the ovarian cancer and her general health condition.

Halloween is Tricky for Food-Allergic Kids

While kids are picking pumpkins and Halloween costumes, parents of kids with food allergies are bracing themselves. Halloween is frightening for these parents, who have to guard against bite-sized treats that as early as September, are showcased by many retailers. What are treats for most children, are life-threatening tricks for the 5 million American children who are in danger of anaphylaxis.

Anaphylaxis is a sudden, severe, systemic allergic reaction that can involve various areas of the body (such as the skin, respiratory tract, gastrointestinal tract, and cardiovascular system). Symptoms can include hives, vomiting, diarrhea, shortness of breath, wheezing, swelling of the lips, tongue and throat, a drop in blood pressure and loss of consciousness. Symptoms can occur within minutes or hours after contact with the allergy-causing substance. In 150-200 incidents a year, anaphylaxis is fatal. It can be caused by a trace amount of an allergen, the eight most common culprits being peanuts, tree nuts, dairy, milk, eggs, shellfish, fish and soy.

Its not just the trick-or-treating experience that is nerve-racking about Halloween, says Tom Croghan whose son has a severe peanut allergy. but Halloween also kicks off the candy-on-the-coffee table season. Beginning now and through the holidays, my wife and I are forced to make a clean sweep of every home we visit to clear away the candies, chocolates and nuts that could land Brad in the hospital. The abundance of accessible food during the holidays creates added danger for a child with food allergies. It is especially risky for children who are too young to comprehend their medical condition or too young to tell people around them that they have to avoid certain foods. The challenge of readily identifying food-allergic children and raising awareness about food allergies is what inspired Ria Sharon, a mom of a toddler with food allergies to create a line of clothing specifically for children at risk.

Sharon started a company called Check My Tag, which offers shirts and dresses that are alert devices for food-allergic kids. Each garment has a sewn-on badge on its left sleeve that announces, Check my Tag! I have food allergies. The inside tag can be personalized by parents with a list of trigger foods and important, life-saving information. The patent-pending design is specifically for children under five, whose parents may hesitate to put an alert bracelet or necklace on their young child but still want to keep their toddler safe in situations when they have to leave them with a caregiver. I wanted something that would give me back my confidence in being able to keep him safe. To my surprise, everything that was currently available in terms of alert products were not practical solutions for us. Ria applied her creative skills to develop a solution that eased her own anxiety and empowered her sons teachers and babysitters to care for him safely.

The number of diagnosed cases of food allergies has doubled in the last five years. 3-1/2 year old Colin Depke from Ballwin is among them. His mom, Carol writes, Thanks for creating such a great product with a purpose! Our 3-1/2 year old has severe food allergies and leaving him at camps and school is hard. Your shirts help to let other people know about his food allergies, yet discreetly. We love the colors and unique style to boot! The med pouch is very convenient to slip into a purse and we love that his action plan is right in the front window. Our sons words sum it up best, I like my tag shirt cause it helps keep me safe!

HALLOWEEN FOOD SAFETY TIPS

Have non-food treat options for trick-or-treaters
Place treats in places that cannot be reached by young children without assistance
Ask teachers before bringing in special Halloween goodies to classrooms
If you are hosting a party, ask if there are food allergy concerns on your invitation
Be awareask a parent or caregiver before offering food to any child
If you see a Check My Tag shirt or any other alert device on a child, be extra vigilant

The Importance of Using Student Credit Cards Wisely

Are you familiar with student credit cards? These credit cards are meant for college students, and are easier to get than regular credit cards. They can help a student establish credit, but they can also bring credit problems to careless students.

Student credit cards can be a source of temptation for college students. Young adults can be easily tempted to buy unnecessary things with their credit card, even if they do not have the money to pay for it. Eventually the balance they charged for their shopping sprees must be paid back.

If a college student is unable to pay the full amount within a certain period of time, interest will be charged. Credit card companies charge interest at a percentage of the over due balance. For instance, if a student has a $100 balance and the credit card company charges a 15% interest rate, the student now owes $115 to the credit card company.

The interest keeps adding up and eventually the student may end up paying only the interest, and their credit card balance is never going to be paid off. That is why the parents of college students should first explain the proper use of student credit cards to their children, before they allow them to get credit cards.

There are also a few things that should be examined before students choose a particular credit card. It is important to check the annual fee of student credit cards. An annual fee is a lump sum that some credit card companies charge to their credit card every year.

It would also be wise to look at the interest rate and other fees of student credit cards. There are cases where the interest charges can send a credit card over the limit. This will cause extra fees, and the student will be unable to use the credit card. Students should pay attention to the different terms and conditions of student credit cards, so that they can determine the particular credit card that is best for them.

When Disability Is the Lesser Evil

You would not want it to happen to you, you would not even want to think of the possibility of being a subject thereof. However, if you were in the saddest situation of being placed in a scenario to choose the lesser evil then in all probability you would choose to be a victim of a disability than experience death from the same cause.

This untimely loss of life and limb by an individual has rippling effects that would rattle not merely the personal life of the victim but more so those people who are actually dependent upon the person who passed away for much needed emotional, social, and financial support.

Life as they say is much unexpected. It is characterized by its dynamism and continuous adoption to change and its volatile structure. You can never have a clue whether a very healthy individual could actually be the subject of an accident that is so sudden and unexpected that you would be left in awe on the outcome that happened. The worst part of being the relative of a person who died because of a negligent case is that you are actually not prepared in handling such sudden loss. Hence, while you still have all the possible ways of preparing for such demise do so by acquiring the services Survivor Benefits Attorneys.

A cause of action is of course always available to the individual, particularly his successors in interest. But what use is a cause of action if you do not exercise it in the proper opportune time, or that your right has already expired because you failed to exercise the same.

You have already been the victim of negligence you are thus far smarter to know that being negligent in the filing of your claim would actually prejudice your cause of action. Survivor Benefit Attorneys know how to protect and promote your rights given the situation that you are in. They know until when will you have a fighting chance for your cause of action and what acts should be avoided to have a timely cause of action filed for settlement.

Do not let the life of your loved one go to waste, fight for his legacy, fight for the last drop of assistance he may be able to provide, fight for what he fought for. Give all that you could give to prevent another life sacrificed because of negligence.

Choosing Boots for Children

Growing up in the Midwest had taught me the importance of having boots for children. There is no need for kids in California to wear boots, except during the rainy season. If you live in or near California, then it might be a smart idea to buy boots for children to keep your kids feet nice and dry. If you live in a harsher climate, you would probably have a different idea about boots for children. They are definitely necessary in the fall, winter, and early to mid spring.

My mother used to get me big, clunky, moon boots every year, and I hated them, not understanding how useful they were. They were thick, with a whole rubber shoe, and a warm insulated ankle piece. I still think that they are the best among all the boots for children that Ive seen. They keep your feet warm and insulated, and are also very useful for walking though the snow. Although there are fancier types of childrens boots, I have never seen a practical alternative.

Another great thing about moon boots is that they are water proof. As a result, they are not only useful as snow boots for children, but as rain boots as well. Although they can make a kid feel a little bit hot and sweaty, I think that its better for their feet to be a little bit warm than a bit too cold. All parents should get this remarkable footwear for their children.

Of course, there are other kinds of boots for children as well. You might want to get hiking boots if you have a particularly active youngster. Kids have roughly the same footwear needs as adults, and if your kids want to go on a hiking trip, you should give them some trail boots. The only drawback with getting hiking boots for children is that they are expensive, and kids can quickly outgrow them. However, if you can afford to get them for your kids, then you should go for it.

Getting Your House Organized

In this modern world, when distant populations are connected by computers and modern communications, when we are all aware of so many possibilities, we seem to have less time and space to enjoy the abundance around us. Today it is common for both spouses work outside the home. Everyone comes home exhausted from work at the end of the day, needing to tend to children and pets, to produce a nourishing meal for the family, to exercise for the allotted time, and to maintain a marital relationship. The last thing you want to do is get your house organized, but it may be the clutter in your house that is slowing you down and helping to make you feel tired.

IF you spend significant amounts of time looking for items that have been put in a safe place, if you struggle to clean your house because of the clutter, if you avoid having friends over because of the mess, if you would be embarrassed for your employer to drop by your home unannounced, you are in danger of letting the clutter take over your life. It is time to take on the task of getting your house organized. When you are finished, you will discover that you have much more free time at the end of the day. Basic tasks are simplified when you know where all the tools are. Everyone is happier when homework and bills arent misplaced in piles of clutter. And it is amazing how quickly a house can be cleaned when it is only necessary to clean the house, instead of having to pick up the mess in the house and then clean it.

If the task seems overwhelming, if you cant think about organizing the entire house at once, take heart and start small. Begin with an area that will make a true impact on your life from the beginningyour clothes closet. If your closet is cleared out and arranged efficiently, you will be able to spend less time finding clothes to wear when you are getting ready for work in the mornings. Because your wardrobe will be organized, you will be able to dress more quickly and attractively. And when you shut that closet door in the morning, you will know that there is a small part of your house that is neat and clean. Just knowing you have made a start will give you the motivation to clear another section, until you have finished organizing the entire house.

Spend an hour in your nearest hardware store to get some cluttered closet help. There, you will find lots of ideas for how to organize, along with supplies for adding an extra shelf or closet rod if necessary. Also, pick up some paint. One of the first things you will need to do for this project is to empty the closet of everything. This is an excellent time to wash the walls, repair or replace fixtures and shelves, and repaint.

Another source of cluttered closet help is a book on how to sort through and organize your wardrobe. All your clothes should be in view. Make a pile of clothing that you havent worn in two or more years. These items may not fit, they may need mended, or dry-cleaned they may be out of style, or they may be worn out. If it is an item that you would wear if it were fixed, and that goes with other items you are keeping, put it in a pile for repairs. Otherwise, give it away. If your closet is small, consider storing off-season clothing in another closet or storage container. Keep your fresh, new closet for the clothing you actually will wear now.

At this point, you may sort in any way you wantby color, by type of clothing (i.e., pants, blouses, and jackets), or by style (i.e., professional, casual, or dressy). This is a good time to utilize some of the many new closet organizers available now. You may want to invest in hangers for belts and scarves, special pants hangers or suit hangers. If space really is at a premium, consider an over-the-door hanger or a hanger that can handle multiple items. There are closet organizers for every article of clothing.

When you are finished, immediately discard the pile to be given away, take the pile to the cleaners, and sit down to mend what is left. Congratulate yourself on a job well-done! You have taken the first step on the way to getting your house organized.

Overcoming The Holiday Blues

The holiday season is now upon us. Often the holiday blues come along with the Christmas cheer. We all have the blues at one time or another but the blues are especially common during the Christmas season. It is also common for the blues to progress into a severe depression during this time of year.

What is the difference between the blues and a severe depression? Depression is a persistent disturbance in mood in which feelings of sadness, loneliness, disappointment and hopelessness are usually common. Some of the symptoms are:

1. A significant increase or decrease in appetite.
2. A change in sleeping habits.
3. Feelings of restlessness or being slowed down.
4. Loss of energy or fatigue.
5. Feelings of worthlessness or guilt.
6. Loss of interest or pleasure in usual activities.
7. Poor concentration or inability to make decisions.
8. Recurrent thoughts of death or suicide.

The most obvious indicator is when a person starts making comments suggesting suicidal thoughts, such as Life has lost its meaning for me. Nobody needs me anymore. My family would be better off without me. No indicator of suicide should be taken lightly.

Depression can hit anyone. It is common among all levels of society. We all have difficulty coping with things at some time or another, so how can we avoid the blues? Some suggestions for avoiding the holiday blues are:

 Concentrate on the positive aspects of ourselves, others and the situations we face.
 Ask for help from family and friends let our needs be known.
 Look for activities for involvement charitable work is an excellent choice.
 Visit friends, family and those less fortunate.
 Eat right and get enough rest.
 Allow time for fun and relaxation.
 Be patient with yourself and with others.
 Manage your time and tasks.
 Talk about thoughts and feelings with others.
 Be open and honest with yourself and with others.

How can we help our loved ones who are suffering with depression? This is a common struggle for those involved. Some helpful suggestions are:

1. Be a good listener. Allow the depressed person to unload his/her thoughts and feelings without making judgments.
2. Look for opportunities to give genuine praise.
3. Be sincerely interested and understanding.
4. Do not constantly correct the depressed person. She/He is already struggling with enough guilt.
5. Make supportive comments such as, We love you. You look a lot better today. And I dont fully understand but I would like to help.
6. Spend time with the depressed person and encourage him/her to get involved in activities.

Support may also mean helping the depressed person to find proper professional help. A good rule of thumb is that if depression persists over a period of more than one month and/or involves intense symptoms, professional intervention should be considered. Even though it is often frightening to seek professional help, depression should not go untreated. When it gets to the point where something has to change, I can help you make the changes!!!

Don't Wait Until You Need Clients, Make TIME for Marketing NOW!

When your phone is ringing off the hook and you're busy working with clients, the last thing you're probably thinking about is taking time out to market and promote your business. (Big mistake!)

In fact, the two big mistakes most self-employed professionals make when it comes to marketing include: not making time for it, and not being consistent about the process when they do finally start. The longer you wait to put an effective system in place, the longer it will take to have a full appointment book month in and month out.

Think about it, if you don't drink until you feel thirsty, you're already dehydrated. It's no different when it comes to getting new business in the door. Don't wait. The time to start is not when you feel a thirst for new clients - it's NOW!

Move "Generating More Clients" to the Top of Your Priority List! Grab your calendar right now and block off at least two full hours each and every business day for client-generating tasks. I highly reccomend scheduling two consecutive hours, but if this is not possible for you, break up the time into shorter intervals of time that work for your schedule. To make the most efficient use of your time, be sure to have a list of marketing activities at your fingertips, so if you happen to find yourself with a last minute cancellation, you can jump right into marketing without wasting time deciding on which activity to do.

The critical first step to successful marketing is putting it into your schedule so that it actually GETS DONE!

People often shy away from static caravan holidays, worried about lack of space or facilities, but anyone who has stayed in a static caravan recently will tell you that its an affordable, spacious and comfortable way to spend your holiday.

Why should you give it a try?

Convenience static caravans are usually found on dedicated holiday parks, which are in an ideal location, with easy access to the beaches, shops and local attractions. This makes them a great base for a holiday you dont need to drive long distances or worry about parking in order to get to popular attractions, and you can return to your caravan whenever you need to.

How To Help Animal Charities With Your Credit Card

Britain is a nation of animal lovers, so it's not surprising that there are many charities set up to look after old, sick or neglected animals. Donations to these charities can be made by supporting events, by setting up bank direct debits and by using cash. Making credit card payments is another way of supporting a charity. This has been made even easier with the appearance of charity credit cards. These are credit cards that have the badge of a particular charity and are supported by well known banks.

Credit cards for animal charities include the Battersea Dogs Home, the British Horse Society, the Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, the Scottish Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals and the People's Dispensary for Sick Animals. Charity credit cards are backed by banks such as the Cooperative Bank, Halifax, the Royal Bank of Scotland and others.

Giving To Charity With Charity Credit Cards

Most charity credit cards contribute to charities in two ways. First of all, they offer a one-off donation of a fixed sum of money when a new credit card account is opened. This sum can range from 5 to more than 40 depending on the deal offered. If consumers continue to use the credit card within a particular period (for example six months to one year) a second lump sum contribution is paid at the end of that period.

Payment is also made through ongoing contributions to the chosen charity. This is normally a percentage of any spending on the card. The percentage ranges from 0.25% to more than 1% depending on the deal.

How To Choose The Best Charity Credit Card Deal

1. Charity credit cards boast many of the same offers as other credit cards. These may include:
2. 0% balance transfer rate
3. 0% purchase rate
4. Low interest rate
5. Reward points
6. Other incentives

Consumers should note that 0% balance transfer and purchase rates are likely to be for a fixed period of between three months and a year. Most card issuers will also charge a fee for balance transfers (around 2%). This is designed to make sure that credit card companies do not lose out on interest as consumers move from 0% card to 0% card.

In addition to the charitable contributions, charity credit cards may offer card holders incentives such as additional travel insurance, reward points that can be exchanged for cash or vouchers and much more.

Look online to find credit card comparison sites. These will help consumers decide on the best mix of incentives, charitable contributions and interest rates to suite their spending habits. Once your new credit card has arrived, just start spending to start giving to charity.

Charity credit cards offer an advantage for people whose heart is in the right place but who just don't remember to dip into their pockets to make a donation. These credit cards make it simple to donate to your favourite charity every time you spend.

DIY, Holiday Creative Project, White Christmas Feathered Square Wreath

White Christmas Feathered Square Wreath
http://www.maddylane.com/project12.html

A white Christmas, Pure and simple with feathers

Hands-on time: Under an hour.
Total time: Under an hour.
Skill: Easy.
Project cost: Under $30.00, depending on the type of feathers you purchase.
Materials & tools:

A square Styrofoam base, 30 cm in length, by 22 cm wide, by 5 cm thick ( if you cant find one cut out a square center opening inside a square Styrofoam base using a craft knife).
White feathers of your choice such as ostrich, turkey, chicken, eyelash feathers, goose, or chandelle feathered boas, strung or individuals.
A ruler
Scissors or clippers
Glue gun, with clear sticks (use a low temperature glue gun)
One meter of satin ribbon, 5cm wide (I used brown)
(Materials for this project are available at craft, fabric, notions and florists' shops.)

The simplest holiday decorations are often the most charming. For a sleek contemporary holiday look, create your own feathered wreath, table-top tree and decorations.

Feather wreaths are a huge trend in home decor, and they make stunning accessories for any season. They are absolutely spectacular poised on a fireplace mantel, centered over a large mirror, on a door or hooked casually over a chair.

Festive feather wreaths are graceful yet quite easy to make. Trim any excess fuzz or unwanted tips off of the feathers. Sort them by size and length.

Start by gluing similar feathered lengths horizontally along the four exterior sides of the Styrofoam square base. Using a glue gun with low-temperature glue sticks, glue the feathers on flat on their lengths, side by side in two rows. Do the same thing to cover the square opening of the wreath's base.

To cover the front surface area of the wreath base, apply a row of feathers along the centre, gluing them one at a time side-by-side, but just the tip part. Start at one end and work your way around the whole base. Add a second layer of feathers to overlap the first row in the same manner, but this time along and around the centre opening border of the base.

Once completed, check the wreath, you might need to secure some feathers with a bit more glue. If you wish, you can secure a wire loop in the back of the wreath for hanging.

For the finishing, I added a plain, deep-chocolate-brown satin ribbon with a bow.

A feathered wreath will last for years. Each holiday, you can give it a fresh new look by just decorating it with a variety of different accessories. Leave the wreath plain or include assorted embellishments such as colourful miniature balls, fresh ivy, a feathered bird, berry clusters, bows and creative wire ornaments.

If you use feather wreaths outdoors, be sure to place them under a covered porch area to avoid direct sunlight or snow. You will want a feather wreath for every season, to hang over a door, on a wall or over a mirror. They make wonderful gifts, too.

Tabletop tree: To make a small cone tree covered with feathers, start by applying a row of feathers with a glue gun at the bottom of the cone base, and keep adding overlapping rows of feathers until the cone base is completely covered all the way to the top. To minimize cost, you can buy an inexpensive feather boa, secure one end to the base with florist's pins or glue, wrap it around the cone shape and tuck in the end to secure it onto the base.

I applied family photographs of past Christmases onto self-hardening clay circle and square shapes to create an advent calendar tree and attached them onto a white feathered tabletop tree using decorative pins.

Variations: Festive feather wreaths can also be quite dramatic in other colours such as plume, burgundy, red, pink, purple, brown, green, you get the picture. Or mix and blend colours to achieve a two tone or multicoloured presentation.

Feathered wreaths can stylishly adorn a decorative ladder, be used as a base for a large pillar candle which is inside a hurricane or a plain glass base vase. Use feathered wreath to dcor your home all year round, a super cute touch on young childrens bedroom doors, such as baby pink or purple.

Use feathers as accents to trim napkin rings, or to grace each table setting, garnish the top of Christmas stockings and gifts.

Assorted feathers types can also be found in party supply or customs stores.

Add Personal Touch with a Photo Christmas Card

If you want to make a really big impact this Christmas, rather than running down to the market and buying stock Christmas cards, try making a family photo Christmas card. Even better, the photo Christmas card is not likely to make it to the rubbish bin but more likely to be kept and either framed or placed into a photo album. In this manner, you are doing your part to help save the trees. The problem with traditional greeting cards is that many people find them to be impersonal and insincere. A photo Christmas card is a personal greeting lets the receiver know that you feel they are a part of your family too.

With widespread digital photography programs available to download (some free and some for a price) or purchase from local retailers it is easier than ever to design, touch up, and print your very own family photo Christmas cards. Digital cameras allow you to take and view photos immediately and retakes only require a few more seconds of your time for those rare photos where someones eyes or closed or someone is giving sister rabbit ears. You dont even need fancy printing and photo editing software to make your own photo Christmas cards, you can upload the photo to one of many online photo services and they can make, edit, and even print the cards for you (for a small fee of course, which is really a small price to pay if you lack the skills to do it for yourself).

There is absolutely no right or wrong way to make a photo Christmas card. In todays world it is perfectly okay to be creative or casual with your card making. Some of the best cards Ive seen are with families in jeans and tee shirts with bare feet all lying on the floor wearing Santa hats. Be silly, be creative, have fun, and let your personality show through. It doesnt even have to be a Christmas type of setting. You can have a family photo at the beach and say something like I bet you wish you were here instead of eating fruitcake Anything to bring a smile to the faces of those that love you most.

The most important thing to remember is that you dont make the process more complicated than it has to be. Keep it as simple as possible. You do not want to have a negative experience by trying to do too much or learn too much too quickly. If you do that, you run the risk of giving up and quitting all together. As Ive mentioned before, if the process of making and printing a card seems overly complicated to you, there are many services, both online and off that will be more than happy to create and print wonderful photo Christmas cards from your family photograph.

It's Your Credit. What Are You Going To Do To Protect It?

For anyone who has, has had and wants to avoid being had, this series of articles reflects years of continuing research. I'll discuss the worse that can ever happen to people thrown into credit situations - whether through their own doing or as victims and how they were able to come of them in one piece. These article are based on facts as I read and understood them.

A credit report is a history of your bill payments record. These can be bills such as home loans and mortgages, revolving credit and even cell phones. There are three credit-reporting agencies that are commonly referred to as credit repositories. Each uses a different type of symbol. When looking at your credit report, be aware of the very first page. This will most often contain the explanation of the symbols that are used by that company. There are various symbols that are utilized to identify payment histoy, types of accounts and whether or not the account is individual, joint or involves a cosigner.

Credit reporting agencies are NOT part of the U.S. Government. They are privately owned companies that get paid to sell information about you to your creditors. They get paid for good and bad information. You are NOT their customer. You do not purchase any goods or services from the Credit Reporting Agencies.

They do not care whether your credit is perfect or poor. They receive their money from the creditors in the form of charges and memberships. Why should a credit reporting agency care about you? You are only a consumer of goods or services.

In fact, Experian, which is one of the three large Credit Reporting Agencies is owned by a British conglomerate. Think about that. Why would a foreign company own a credit reporting agency in the United States? The answer is simply for the profit. Those are the facts.

Remember, most credit reports identify the consumer (you) by your name and your credit entries by the name, account number and the date that the account was opened. Being able to identify information that is not accurate can help you to raise your credit scores. One of the single most important parts of the following articles is your ability to identify on your credit report your legal right to know WHEN an account is first delinquent.

In a future article I'll devote an entire paragraph that further explains this portion of the law.

Making Low Rate Credit Cards Possible

While plenty of cardholders around the world suffer from unpaid debts due to unsurpassable high interest rates, there are also some who enjoy low rated credit cards plus other benefits. Are there secrets on how to acquire a low interest rate credit cards or owning one that offers rewards?

Several people claim that credit cards are no other than a heavy yoke to their pocket. They would express their heartfelt hate to the credit companies and banks that do not in any way lower their rates though they maintain a good standing and credibility with them. How could these things go possibly true and untrue?

All credit card companies, except otherwise for some that chooses not to, apply the APR or known as the Annual Percentage Rate. APR is the interest being charged by the credit company to the borrowers. This interest rate includes other fees and add-on costs that is part of the transaction. There are other companies that associate APR with the penalties due to late payments, transaction fees and other forms. The APR may serve as the ground rate in which a lender can compare with other companies. There are provisions that mandate credit card companies to show the APR to customers so that the latter may have enough reason to whether go for the said credit line or not depending on the rate. In general, 12 % per annum is the accepted APR that is being asked from the client. However this rate may be changed and made higher but then it will need the approval of the authority. There are banks that convert APR into monthly rates but when compounded, the rate is just equivalent to the APR.

There are still a lot of fees that a credit company may ask from the client. APR is just one of plenty yields that they ask one to pay. But then, these additive rates maybe prevented or are scraped out by you through your company.

There is one possible way to get a low interest rate credit card. That is to look for a card with low APR and offers constant rating as long as your account is active. Here are some pointers in which one may use in order to find a good rate or better yet low interest rate credit cards.

-Beginners must seek for banks or any lending companies that offers low APR and penalty rates. These will help you check on whether you can possibly pay your balances or not. You can also ask the company if the interest rates that they have are constant from the activation of the account. If not, ask if the fluctuations or inflations are small enough that you can bear. Old card holders may call their credit card companies and ask whether they can convert the rates into a lower one. If not, tell them to cancel the account and try to temporarily transfer the balance into your other accounts and then open another with low interest rates.

-Keep yourself updated with the press releases of the Federal Reserve Board. This will help you know the current average accepted rate as compared to your accumulated earnings.

-Maintain a good credibility with your bank. Payment must be done ahead or on time to prevent penalties and to further solicit trust from your credit card company. Many good payers are being cared for by the lending companies.

When all these things does not work for you, then try some other ways without compromising your money and without dumping yourself into a pile of debt.

Is Designer Clothing Worth the Cost?

Do you ever wonder whether or not designer clothing is worth the cost? Do you think that some people are out of their minds for spending so much on a simple piece of clothing? If so, keep reading and youll find out why individuals who refuse to buy designer clothing may actually end up spending more on their wardrobes than those who wear haute couture designs.

Here is a list of benefits associated with designer clothing. Hopefully this will clear up any doubts you may have had about spending a little extra money on high end designs.

Longevity

As you probably know by now, designer clothing is made with the highest quality of materials, 100 percent of the time. You know what youre getting and they arent trying to trick you. They are telling you very clearly this piece was designed by the best designers in the industry and features the highest quality materials possible but youll have to pay the price, otherwise were not making any profit. As a result, youll pay a little more in the beginning but that piece will likely remain in top condition for years and years.

Status

This one is a little materialistic but lets be realistic theres a little part of each of us that want the designer clothing because of the label. Chanel didnt get their consumer-base strictly from the materials they use. They built a name for themselves through their incredible logo and the designs they use on a regular basis. Its okay to purchase clothes for this reason but you generally shouldnt purchase them only for this reason.

Comfort

Once you realize how much time you actually spend in your clothes (which for most of us, is approximately 95% of our lives) youll realize how important it is to choose the right clothing. Have you ever noticed that individuals who purchase designer clothing never complain that its itchy and uncomfortable? Me either. Cashmere, silk and satin are the most comfortable fabrics available. For most of us feeling good is just as important as looking good. Not only will you look good in designer clothing but youll feel good too.

I hope this clears up some of the questions you may have had regarding the benefits of choosing designer clothing. Knowing how the clothing is made and which types of materials are best to purchase will give you the upper hand on your next shopping experience. Dont let other designers fool you into thinking youre getting authentic pieces when youre not. If a deal seems too good to be true it, it probably is.

How to Schedule a Book Signing

How would you like to sell more copies of your book? Would you like to read excerpts from your book to a captivated audience?

Book signings are the cornerstone of an author's post-publication foundation. But how do you set them up?

Organizing book signings, readings, and public appearances is one of the most important parts of a successful marketing campaign.

A book signing or reading is a bookstore event that features you and your latest book. This is your opportunity to meet potential buyers face to face. Plus it adds a personal touch to your promotion efforts. Many customers may feel more motivated to purchase a copy of your book if they hear it explained or read from your point of view. And the opportunity to get a copy signed by the author doesn't hurt, either!

Independent book stores and larger chain retailers both organize book signings. Your chances for finalizing an appearance are greater with the independents. They have to compete with larger chains and are therefore more willing to support local authors. In order to pinpoint potential book stores, check your local newspapers or see if book retailers in your area offer a "calendar of events" or post upcoming events on a public bulletin board.

By asking around for the owner of the store or the communications manager you can typically find the appropriate person with whom to discuss your event. In many cases, both the large and small retailers will have their events planned weeks or even months in advance. Plan early.

When you have a list of people and/or stores you plan on contacting, prepare your pitch. Have a small script that outlines what your book is about and why people would be interested in meeting you or reading the book. The store manager or PR person will most likely ask. If your subject matter is timely, all the better! Remember, this is the point during which the store manager or book buyer will be screening your presentation skills, either over the phone or in person. If they are not captivated by your presentation, they will have very little faith in your ability to captivate a crowd. Be extroverted and dynamic.

It also helps to be concise. Understand that these are busy people. You want to sell them on your event fast. Have your press release and/or sell sheet ready. It's helpful in case they ask for a copy or if they ask about specific information about the book. They may want to know the retail price, the retail margin, and the ISBN number immediately so they can order a review copy themselves prior to deciding. Advise them of the publication date after which they can order the book wholesale through the Ingram or Baker & Taylor databases, or retail from your own webpage address. Provide them with your URL. They might be impressed enough by your initial marketing initiatives to go forward with the book signing.

Offer to help them with promotion. Especially if you're targeting smaller book stores, they will be more interested in offering to host an event if they know you will be absorbing some of the burden of marketing it. Tell them all your friends and family will be attending the event (and then make sure to invite your friends and family!), and if it's within the scope of your marketing budget, offer to advertise in the local paper at your expense. Remember, the easier it is for the book store, the more likely they'll say yes.

Follow-up with prospective book stores who have not confirmed dates. Selling yourself and your book is a number's game, and as any salesperson will tell you, the amount of contact is directly proportionate to the amount of sales. So be persistent without being annoying. If, after three or four unsuccessful attempts with a particular store or person, move on to another prospect.

Make Your Own Christmas Cards

Are you tired of sending the same old Christmas cards depicting boring baubles and dreary bells year in and year out? Have you ever thought that you could design better Christmas cards yourself? Why not have a go this year?

The best time to begin collecting material for making Christmas cards is during the previous year's yuletide season. Collect as many seasonal clippings, ribbons, bows and small decorations as possible from magazines, wrapping paper, gift tags, Christmas cards, advent calendarsthe list is endless - you won't have to look far for inspiration during the Christmas period.

Once you have amassed all of your material, store it in a special craft chest. You may wish to divide your material into different themes and put it into individual drawers in your craft chest.

You can then decide when to begin making cards for next Christmas. This will depend on how much time you have throughout the year and how many cards you wish to make - do you want to make a card for everyone on your Christmas card list or just a few for close friends and family?

Before starting to make the cards, you will need to buy either some card for cutting, folding and making your own card blanks or some ready-made card blanks with envelopes - this is the quickest and easiest way. Look in the crafts-paper crafts-card making section of eBay for good value packs of card blanks and matching envelopes or try your local craft store.

White or cream is a good background color as it enables you to use a variety of colors on top but you don't have to restrict yourself to this color, you can be as creative as you like. Red and green also make good background colors for Christmas cards.

You may also wish to buy peel-offs, which are stickers with such greetings as 'Happy Christmas,' 'Season's Greetings,' etc. They are useful for giving your cards the finishing touch but are not essential, as you could write a greeting using a silver gel pen, for example, or not include a greeting on the front of the card at all.

Sticky pads are another useful addition to your Christmas card craft making kit. These small foam pads with adhesive on both sides give certain images a slightly raised effect, allowing them to stand out from card slightly. They are excellent for giving more prominence to centerpieces.

You could also buy other materials like handmade or mulberry paper but these are not necessary if you have amassed a lot of your own Christmas material.

Alternatively, if you do not have any materials for making the cards, you could buy a Christmas card making kit. This will include several card blanks as well as many bits and pieces that you can use to design and make cards. It may even have suggested designs and instructions, which are great if you lack a little inspiration.

As far as tools are concerned, the only essential tools are a pair of scissors, a ruler and some glue. A glue pen is very useful as it allows you to apply glue very finely to small decorations.

Now the fun beginsjust sit down and let you imagination run wild. Try out different designs on the cards without sticking them down. If one design doesn't work, discard it and begin again but don't be too judgmental - the idea is to have fun. Some designs will be better than others but you won't develop your own style if you don't give your creativity full rein.

As a finishing touch, you could add a little sticker on the back saying 'handmade by' These stickers are available to buy or you could print them yourself from your computer. If people like your cards, you could have orders coming in for next year's cards and before you know it, you will have set up your own card making business. You could even sell your surplus cards to friends, at local groups and fairs or even on the Internet. eBay is a good place to start selling hand-crafted items online.

If you do begin selling your cards, bear in mind that you can only sell your original designs. If you have copied someone else's design either from a book, magazine, website or another source, you cannot sell it as it would be a violation of copyright, unless it is explicitly stated that it is a copyright-free design.

So, sit down, relax and enjoy a creative pursuit in the run-up to Christmas. The rewards could be greater than you expect.

Clues for Dating Vintage Clothing

With celebrities such as Barbara Streisand, Sarah Jessica Parker, Winona Ryder, Sharon Stone, Drew Barrymore and Michael Richards flaunting their trendy wardrobes vintage fashions have become very popular. Whether you want to establish a collection of clothes from bygone eras or you would just like a few unique pieces to add oomph to your wardrobe, it is interesting to know the history of your piece.

How do you know if the 1930s silk charmuese nightgown advertised on Ebay is really from the 1930s era? Now if you absolutely love the colour or style well maybe the age does not matter. If you do not want to pay a premium for something that is not as advertised, it is important to learn a few pointers.

There are numerous ways to date garments. You can shop with confidence when you know what clues to watch for.

For instance - How are the seams finished? Are they pinked, Frenched or serged? Sergers and overlock machines have been around since the 1950s, but were not in homes until around 1964. Inspecting the seams of custom-made items may not tell you for sure when it was made, but it can let you know for sure when it wasnt made.

Examination of the seams on store bought, mass produced clothing of the 1950s, shows that most were pinked. Overcast seams, welted seams or Frenched seams were usually only found on very expensive garments. Overlock seams did start showing up in lingerie during the 1950s. By the early 1960s all lingerie had overlocked seams, and the use of the overlock stitch was beginning to appear in other garments made of fabric that would frey easily.

A 1965 catalogue ad mentions that a garment featured overlocked seams, while another ad boasts overlock seams in 1960s lingerie. The term is not a selling point in fashions of today as most attire has overlocked or serged seams.

Another indication of age is the use of the zipper. Patented in 1893 the first zipper was called a clasp locker. These zippers were not practical. Although a zipper was developed in 1913 with interlocking teeth, it was slow to catch on.

Zippers were first put in childrens clothing in the 1930s and replaced the button fly in mens trousers around 1937. There were a few zippers in women's clothing of the 1940's, but most garments still possessed button fasteners, until the 1950s when they finally became popular.

Catalogues from the mid 1960s boast about the wonders of nylon zippers. Nylon zippers were thought to be less bulky, easier to hide and more comfortable than the old metal zippers.

Keep in mind that the presence or absence of a zipper and the type of zipper provides clues to the age of the garment but that other factors still need consideration. As zippers can be replaced, metal zippers are not a guarantee that the item was manufactured before 1960. Similarly, a vintage garment may have had a broken zipper replaced by a nylon one.

These are just a couple of points to consider when identifying vintage clothing. Other factors to take into account are fabrics, styles and labels.

Use a bit of logic with what you learn to decide if the item is desirable.

Telling Stories

You Made a MistakeBut Now I Am Your Biggest Fan

Pearl chose to celebrate her 94th birthday with her family and friends at a local restaurant. Although she had always enjoyed the restaurant, she specifically chose it because she was a member of its frequent diner program and was entitled to free desserts for all her guests on her birthday.

She graciously offered each guest whatever dessert they wanted on the house. The waitress overheard Pearl and asked for the card that was sent to her announcing this offer. Pearl hadnt brought the card with her. The waitress apologized, but refused to offer the desserts saying Theres nothing that I can do. Its policy. Pearl was embarrassed, not only for forgetting the card, but also for putting her guests in an uncomfortable position.

One of the guests asked for a manager hoping that someone would do the right thing. No such luck. The manager repeated the same mantra, Sorry, theres nothing I can do. Its policy. The manager allowed the guest to call the corporate headquarters. Two phone calls later; a corporate manager said, No problem!

Of course, there was a problem. A big problem! Pearl was humiliated and angry. No one left the restaurant feeling fondly about what had been a great meal celebrating a momentous occasion. It will be a long time before Pearl or any of her guests return to this restaurant, if ever.

What had been accomplished? In an effort to save money by not allowing people to take advantage of the dessert offer, the restaurant had lost five good and loyal customers. Doesnt seem to be a smart business move, does it?

But it wasnt just five customers that were lost. This lunch was such a bad experience for Pearl and her guests that theyve been telling this story over and over and over.

People love to tell stories. They especially love to tell horror stories. Interestingly enough, customers wont tell stories about satisfactory experiences. Too boring what would be the point? But they will tell stories about exceptionally bad or exceptionally good service.

Consider these three examples:

You order a new door for your home. The company comes on time and replaces your door. Are you going to share that story with anyone? Doubtful. You are a satisfied customer. End of story.

You order a new door for your home. They come to install it and find that the frame was measured incorrectly. This is the third wrong door delivered. Are you going to share THIS story? You betcha! Every friend and family member will know the name of the company and they will tell their friends and family to stay away!

You order a new door for you home. They come to install it and find that the frame was measured incorrectly. The installer apologizes sincerely, telling you that he understands what a waste of time this has been for you. He promises that he will personally make sure you have the right door in a week. Then he asks, Would that satisfy you? When you say yes, he sets the day and time.

The installer comes the next week as promised and installs your door. You are now a satisfied customer. But he wants you to be more than a satisfied customerhe wants you to be thrilledso he takes 20% off your bill to compensate you for your trouble. The following week the owner gives you a call to see if everything is okay.

Are you going to share this story? Without a doubt! In so doing, you will become the companys cheapest and most effective form of advertising!

So, how can you turn your disgruntled customer into your biggest fan?

Customers enter into every transaction with a set of basic expectations. When you create a problem for your customers by failing to meet these expectations youre faced with meeting a new set of even more challenging expectations.

There are simple steps that will work to not only meet these expectations, but exceed them. Imagine the following scenario: Mr. Jones has arrived at your dealership to pick up his car at the promised time; however, his vehicle is still being worked on. Mr. Jones is becoming irate. What should you do?

Step One: Empathetic apology. It isnt sufficient to mumble the word sorry and expect it to have a positive effect. Your apology needs to show your customer that YOU understand how YOUR mistake has negatively impacted his or her life.

Step Two: Take ownership. You want the customer to understand that you are the person who will fix their problem. Ask the customer what you can do to make it right. Often people are afraid to ask their customer this question. They dont want to become obligated to meet an unrealistic demand. You neednt be afraid of their answer, because simply asking does not obligate you. Most customers are reasonableat worst, you have the beginning of a negotiation.

Step Three: Fix the problem immediately. In the case of Mr. Jones, you would want to get his car to him ASAP. Sometimes you cant fix the problem immediately, in which case you need to show him that youre making a sincere effort to resolve the problem.

Step Four: Get your customers buy in. Asking for the customers agreement will ensure that he will at least leave satisfied.

Try something like, I am so sorry Mr. Jonesnot having your vehicle ready at the promised time must have really inconvenienced you. I will personally make sure that your vehicle is ready in the next 20 minutes. Will that be satisfactory?

With small problems, these four steps should satisfy your customer. But remembera satisfied customer doesnt talk about his experience. Now, take the opportunity to add value, so that your customers will talk about how great you are. To do this, you need to take two additional steps.

Step Five: Symbolic atonement. You need to go the extra mile to show that you are truly sorry. A small token can go a long way to ease the pain your mistake caused. In the case of Mr. Jones, an offer of a free oil change might be appropriate. This gift shows that you understand that an apology alone cannot fix the problem. Reflect on what you know about this customer and choose something that has meaning and value to him.

Step Six: Follow up. This is where you can really shine! After a short period of time, call, e-mail or write your customer and make sure they are satisfied with your efforts. This is also an opportunity to ask for more business and referrals.

None of these steps take an inordinate amount of time or money, but they can really create delighted customerscustomers who will tell stories that promote you to their friends and family.

Now, lets go back to Pearls birthday lunch. Why wasnt the permission to provide the free desserts enough to turn it into a good story? The weight of the damage that was done was so much more than the effort it would have taken to make it right at the beginning.

What should this restaurant have done? An empathetic apology would have been a start. Mrs. Grey, we are so sorry that we ruined your birthday. We hope these desserts will make it a little better. (Steps 1-3 in action) But they needed to go the extra mile. She should have been sent a letter apologizing again and offering a free meal to compensate her for her discomfort. (Step 5) The final touch that could turn this nightmare into an opportunity to create a loyal customer would be a phone call after she redeemed the free meal to make sure that it was good experience. (Step 6)

People are telling stories about you and your business. What kind of stories are they telling? View every customer problem as an opportunity to produce a cheerleader for your business. Turn your potential nightmare into a great story. Do the right thing.

Restrict Your Child's Computer Use

It can be difficult for parents to restrict their child's use of the computer. However, for many parents this has become an unavoidable eventuality, as computers have intruded to such a degree into the lives of children, that far too many youngsters are spending an unhealthy amount of time behind them.

The word 'unhealthy', supposes a negative influence on your child's physical and mental/social development. Physical problems include a bad posture due to a poor sitting position, or deteriorating eyesight due to too much time spent looking at the screen. Mental/social problems include a feeling of alienation from the real world, and less opportunity to develop real life social skills.

When parents first bring up the subject, that they intend to restrict when their child can use the computer, it is vital that the child is in a calm mood, and that he or she does not have ready access to a blunt instrument. The computer might well be your child's best friend in life, and any suggestion about cutting short the supply of the daily drip feed of games, chat rooms, and web surfing could lead to wild and fervent behavior from your offspring.

Calm and empty handed, your child is being made aware that you intend to restrict their use of the computer starting from tomorrow. You know your child spends too much time on it. Perhaps your child comes home from school, buries him or her self in the bedroom, and instantly goes on the computer for a few hours. Perhaps he or she just uses it for a couple of hours a day, the session which begins 5 minutes after their bedtime. However your child misuses the computer, you have to choose the best way to restrict their use. The scenarios are numerous, but effective solutions harder to come by.

One family told me how they recently took the computer out of their son's bedroom, and put it into the sitting room, from where they could more easily restrict its use. Unfortunately however, with a streak of sneakiness not unknown to generations of teenagers beforehand, their son would tiptoe down to the lounge after the parents had gone to bed, and reveled away on the computer all night long. The parents only began to suspect something when they found the child one morning in the lounge snoring away with his head on the desk.

Another source told me how they'd made a verbal agreement with their child in order to restrict his computer use. It was made on Sunday morning, and by Sunday lunch time the child had already broken the agreement, citing 'aggressive monster beheading' withdrawal symptoms as the grounds for his transgression.

I do know of a considerably more effective way to restrict your child on the computer. This method is sneaky-safe, and does not take withdrawal symptoms as an excuse. It is a computer control program called Chronoger; written by the acclaimed software development company SoftForYou. Inherent in the program is everything that you will need to restrict not only when your child can use the computer, but how he or she can use it too; when for doing homework, and when for entertainment.

By installing the program onto your child's computer, you will be able to select for each day of the week when and how long your child can use the Internet, play games, enter chat programs, and use the computer as a whole. Your child will not be able to change these settings, which are protected by an administrator (parent) password.

One of the best thing about it is that you hardly even have to know anything about computers to use the program. It is very user friendly, and simple to navigate around. If you do come across a problem, as part of the package you can contact the support center and get any assistance that you require.

This program means that you can leave the computer in your child's room, and know that they are using it when and how you would want. Also it means that you can dispense with verbal agreements of dubious significance and lasting.
